What you will learn

This course will be delivered in a combined lecture and workshop format. Participants will examine and address both manual and automated sharpening techniques to achieve a positive sharpening outcome. This course includes a theoretical review, clinical demonstrations and hands-on components.

Objectives

  • Review of instrument design and sharpening stone options.
  • Address obstacles to instrument sharpening and how to overcome them.
  • Discuss four common sharpening errors and how to avoid them.
  • Identify useful strategies for both manual and automated sharpening (side kick).

Pricing and details

Class format

The course is held in person at the Edmonton Clinical Health Academy on the 91³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏÍø campus. It runs from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. MST.

Our leading faculty

Lisa Szautner
Dental hygienist

Szautner, BSc, DipDH, earned her diploma in dental hygiene in 2016 and her bachelor of science in dental hygiene in 2017 from the 91³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏÍø. She currently practices in rural Alberta and is passionate about providing accessible oral health care. A testament to her dedication is her participation in a dental mission to Nicaragua, where she provided essential care to underserved communities.
