Please join us at the 91³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏÍø Breton Plots, a historic and unique site that is one of the longest running agricultural soil experiments in North America. It continues to enable research on soil health, higher yields, greenhouse gas emissions, nitrogen fertilizers, nutrient balances, crop rotation and carbon sequestration.
Program
Regional Variety Trial
Do you use the Alberta Seed Guide to track yields of new grain varieties? Where does the information in the Seed Guide come from? Come to the Breton Plots to see a side by side comparison of cultivars in this trial. A representative from Alberta Grains will be present to speak about the 22 varieties of CWRS wheat, 15 varieties of CPSR wheat, 19 varieties of barley and 12 varieties of oats.
Warm Season Polyculture ProjectThis new research project was designed with partnership with Peace Country Beef and Forage Association (Fairview), with the objective to study resilience in forage cropping systems. Dr Erick Santos (Assistant Professor – Forage Science) will be on hand to lead the discussion of polycultures in forage systems. Come and check out a research trial that includes a sorghum sudangrass hybrid!
Sulvaris Nitrogen and Sulfur Crop Nutrition TrialA crop nutrition scientist from Sulvaris will talk about the role of nitrogen and sulfur in a canola-wheat crop rotation trial (currently wheat), focusing on Sulvaris’ line of Carbon Control Technology (CCT™) and UreaMST® products.
Remembering RobertsonProfessor Jim Robertson passed away on March 24, 2025 at the age of 94. We will take this opportunity to honour his contributions to the Breton Plots.
